Job Description: As an Outside Sales / Specification Representative one of your primary responsibilities include creating new accounts in a dedicated market territory in a business-to-business (B2B) environment while building and maintaining a close working relationship with existing accounts. The successful candidate will leverage an innovative mindset to support their clients in achieving their business objectives while also accomplishing company set monthly and annual targets. The ideal candidate will cultivate relationships with customers involved in the manufacturing process but also have the drive and talent to develop relationships with architects, designers, developers and general contractors.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Proactively make outgoing calls and visits to generate sales and specifications with manufacturing customers, designers, architects, developers and general contractors in the building products industry.
  • Prospecting new accounts and making cold calls
  • Preparing responses to RFP (request for proposals) and RFI (request for information)
  • Maintain knowledge of competitor products and identify and report intelligence on competitor pricing or marketing strategies
  • Understand specification and the steps required to execute a specification throughout the complete sales process
  • Effectively manage time to accomplish daily tasks effectively and efficiently so that they can achieve sales targets
  • Develop trusted business relationships with influencers at manufacturers and all Formations accounts within their territory and network with designers, architects, builders, contractors, dealers, etc.
  • Submit a variety of sales status reports as required, including activity, closings and follow-up
  • Submit quarterly customer visit plans; schedule client meetings and action plans for follow-up
  • Be able to work with the vendors, sales desk and warehouse to fulfill customer requirements
  • Understand the market price for the products offered by the company to maximize margins
  • Utilize the companies CRM to input market information
  • Continual self-education and participation in training sessions of Formations products to allow expert consultation with customers
  • Provide timely and accurate technical information for product specifications
  • Follow up to make sure that product information as provided is sufficient and specifications are held through the bid process

 Requirements and Qualifications: 

  • Minimum of 3 years sales experience is an asset
  • Post-secondary education is considered an asset
  • Experience in millwork, cabinet or furniture industries is considered an asset
  • Experience in the design community is considered an asset
  • Solid computer skills are required for processing orders, ordering material, checking inventory, etc.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Able to work under pressure to achieve monthly and annual goals
  • Self-motivated and driven to continuously improve and add value to the organization
  • Excellent English communication skills (written and verbal)
  • Positive attitude able to work independently and as integral part of a team environment
  • Ability to be a hunter and also have the ability to grow and maintain current accounts

Summary: Leading, managing and overseeing branch personnel, supervising branch operations, and ensuring efficient operation on a day-to-day basis. The GM leads the development of a business and operating plan to achieve the overall regional and corporate objectives. The GM is also responsible for developing office strategies for accelerating growth through customer loyalty and employee engagement, market penetration and share gain. The GM will leverage in depth knowledge of the marketplace and industry to identify emerging gaps or opportunities to grow the business. Will collaborate and provide input to the President and the senior management team to support continued expansion of new and existing products and services.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Strategy
    • Effective implementation of Corporate strategies
    • Responsible for aligning Branch processes, practices, roles and responsibilities with the Company’s strategy and business plan.
  • Strategy Leadership
    • Effectively communicates the corporate strategy and business plan to staff
    • Promotes and responsible for the timely and effective implementation of the business plan
    • Ensures all staff act consistently with corporate values and “Ways of Being”
    • Responsible for the growth and profitability of the branch
  • Advisor
    • Is a trusted advisor to customer executives
    • Is a mentor and coach for all branch staff, with a focus on career development
  • Sales
    • Accountable for increasing sales revenue and developing key branch accounts
    • Supports branch efforts to increase sales and foster all current and new accounts
  • Operations
    • Oversees daily operations of the branch (Sales, warehouse, logistics, purchasing, and specifications)
    • Is responsible for understanding and the preparation of branch budgets, financial forecasts and accounts receivable collections
    • Responsible for creating and maintaining a safe working environment (physical and emotional) for all the staff
    • Accountable for inventory management
    • Makes effective use of the organizations information technology infrastructure, policies, procedures and security
  • Management
    • Responsible to align Branch staff and initiatives with company strategy
    • Responsible for the profitability of the branch
    • Develops & maintains an in-depth knowledge of the branch territory and customer base
    • Is proactive in understanding the market to respond to shifts in supply and demand
    • Ensures a positive customer focus guiding all services
    • Fosters a team approach within the branch and across the corporation
  • Human Resources
    • Oversee the hiring of branch personnel and is responsible for effective onboarding
    • Regularly communicates corporate values and ways of being to all staff
    • Provides timely feedback to all personal on their performance
    • Promotes an environment of continuous learning and development
    • Employee management and conflict resolution

Requirements and Qualifications: 

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in a senior leadership role is required
  • Post-secondary education in a business-related discipline is considered a plus but is not required
  • A combination of experience and education may be considered
  • Solid computer skills are required
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent communication skills (written and verbal)
  • Able to work under pressure to achieve monthly and annual goals
  • Self-motivated and driven to continuously improve and add value to the organization
  • Flexible schedule and ability to travel

Other qualifications include:

  • The successful candidate will leverage a sound understanding of leadership, operations management and product distribution
  • Demonstrated ability to set and achieve short and long-term goals and implement strategic plans
  • Proven experience developing, mentoring, motivating and retaining an engaged management team
  • Ability to steward revenues and/or expenses in accordance with budgets; estimating future possibilities, managing revenue/expense controls, and providing informed analyses
  • Experience operating in a diverse environment with a focus on client and customer services and entrepreneurship
  • Sales background focused on territory growth is considered an asset
